Introduction:
If you’ve been anywhere on the internet in the last year, you’ve likely come across weighted blankets. They are heavy blankets, originally used in medical settings for children with autism, that have recently gained popularity among the masses for improving sleep.
It seems that every time I’ve searched on Google, I’ve found a number of new companies selling these blankets, with mixed reviews. I set out to test a weighted blanket from each of two long-standing Toronto-Based companies: Gravid and Hush.
The weighted blankets I am testing:
- Gravid 3.0: 60×80″ – 15lb
Core Bundle (with MicroPlush and EcoBreeze Cooling Covers) - Hush: 60×80″ – 15lb
2-in-1 Bundle (with Minky and Iced 2.0 Cooling Covers)
Gravid’s pricing starts at $159 while Hush’s lowest-priced offering is $299. We will find out if the Hush is worth the extra money, or if you are better off going with the lower-priced Gravid 3.0.
Disclaimer: I purchased both of the blankets independently at regular prices to provide an unbiased opinion. If you click on the links in this post, I may earn a small affiliate commission, at no extra cost to you.
First Impressions:
Hush:
The Hush feels very luxurious, and the double-square quilting pattern is pretty. The plush “minky” cover is quite nice to run your hand over. The materials seem to be very high-quality, but when I lifted the blanket up, I noticed a fair bit of sagging inside the cover. The blanket is held in place by a combination of a zipper and fabric ties around the perimeter of the blanket. Unfortunately, the zipper broke the very first time I touched it, so the remaining fabric ties were the only thing reliably holding it in place. I was a bit disappointed to see many loose threads inside as well especially considering the price point. I will give them a pass on this as these threads are not visible when the blanket is in normal use. The rest of the blanket still feels well-made and I’m not sure if the sagging will be noticeable when I sleep with it.
Gravid 3.0:
The Gravid blanket came in its own box, and the covers came in individual bags, and I had to attach them together. They sell them this way because Gravid allows you to customize your blanket with bundling options (blanket alone, with one cover, or both). I opted for the Night Owl bundle which includes the weighted blanket and both covers. The inner blanket attaches to the cover using their ZipperTech™ system, and it took me 5 minutes to attach the blanket to the MicroPlush Cover (using the included booklet for instructions). The blanket seemed very secure in its cover, and the thickness and quality of Gravid’s ZipperTech™ was significantly better than the zipper in the Hush. Gravid’s zipper is much more heavy-duty. The Gravid MicroPlush material is very similar to Hush’s minky material, but is a lighter grey colour with a “threadless” quilting pattern.
The Experiment:
I tried each blanket for 7 consecutive nights while wearing my Garmin vivosmart 5 fitness tracker. The first 7 nights were spent with the Hush, then one night with my regular comforter as a “reset”, then 7 nights with the Gravid.
The Numbers:
Using my Garmin vivosmart 5 Fitness Tracker, here are my results:
Impact on my day:
I rated the following factors on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest or most desirable:
Okay, I know this part is subjective, but I felt really good all week when I was sleeping with the Gravid blanket. I felt like I had a consistent amount of energy throughout each day. The Hush was an improvement over a regular comforter, but I still had mornings where I felt groggy.
Customer Service:
Hush:
I emailed their customer support about my broken zipper and never heard back at all.
Gravid:
I did not need any real assistance, but I tested their live-chat on the website and was assisted by Jhoan within one minute, and she was very courteous and pleasant.
Conclusion:
Hush:
Their website is easy to navigate, the packaging is very nice, and their marketing photos are clearly leaps and bounds ahead of Gravid’s, but unfortunately, during my week-long trial, I woke up once a night to re-adjust under the Hush because of the clumpiness of the blanket inside the cover. The inner part seems to distribute the weight well, but with the zipper immediately breaking, it was only really held in place with the fabric ties, and this caused an uneven, clumpy feeling. I reached out to Hush’s customer support about the broken zipper and never heard back at all. I also found myself feeling too hot under the plush cover, even in my air-conditioned room. So, for one night (Night 4) I tried the Hush with the Iced Cover, and it did help a bit, but certainly not as much of a “cooling” effect as they advertise. This is likely because of the polyester inner blanket which was still causing me to sweat. Coming in at a much higher price than Gravid, I expected more luxury and features out of this blanket, but I was underwhelmed.
Gravid:
The average duration of sleep with the Gravid put me over the recommended 8 hours, which was amazing to see. I’ve used my Garmin tracker for about 6 weeks now, so I have some data from before the experiment as well. I was averaging 7.2 hours of sleep before this test. The Hush did improve my sleep duration, but the Gravid had a greater impact. I suppose this is because I never woke up mid-sleep under the Gravid. The EcoBreeze Cooling cover from Gravid actually works to cool you because the inner blanket is also cool to the touch, and the MicroPlush cover is also incredibly beautiful and luxurious. The main differentiator for me is that Gravid’s blanket attachment system uses ZipperTech™ which was much more robust, worked as it was supposed to, and made the blanket feel much more evenly distributed.
At a lower price point, with a much higher-quality blanket and instant customer support, Gravid Weighted Blankets are a clear winner over the Hush Blanket.

HUSH BUYERS BEWARE!!
We purchased 2 in 1 blanket from hush.ca on July 21, 2023. Order number 85425 & amount $507.37. Then, it’s backorder and we just received it yesterday. (1st Oct 2023) Once we open the box and found out Classic cover’s zip line/zip was defective. We contacted Hush.ca right away but they didn’t reply anything. Even live chat their representative are online but they never reply anything, I tried to call them on 647-946-5884, but no luck all the option goes no where. it’s disconnect itself and played recorded message they are busy and not able to get any calls. I want replacement products or full refund.
I had a similar situation. Waited forever for my original order to come from backorder. Then my zipper was getting caught as the serging was off. They eventually sent me a replacement cover, with a zipper that didn’t match! I can’t even zip it up. The weight is wide tooth and the replacement cover is fine tooth. The replacement is completely useless to me. I emailed and received no response. They have the absolute worst customer service and the product is not very high quality for the high price.
Last year I ordered on Black Friday in nov. as a Christmas gift and have received no notice of shipment. My request sent on Monday dec. 13 to know if it would be arriving in December as promised received an auto reply saying they are 2-3 days behind in responding. After 2 weeks there was still no response to my email. Absolutely terrible customer service and I wish I saw this thread before ordering.
Do not buy Hush, as the family who owns them have been known to scam and the mother of that family was even charged with having foreign house maids held in captivity against their will and extorting them for cash, preventing them from returning home..
Hush are pros on luring customers!
I totaly agrees with your cons. Plus the 90 night trial is lie.
Same thing happened to me ordered September 14 have been trying to cancel since September 20 ..merchandise has not been shipped. Have phoned and emailed trying to cancel order but no one answers the phone and no one answers your emails..They took my payment immediately. If we can help future customers not have this happen to then let’s go after HUSH…
I got a Hush blanket through my AirMiles paying over 4000 AirMiles for it for a bday gift for myself. Immediately on the first night sleeping with it, my sinuses were running, my eyes were running, my head was aching, and I started coughing. I tried it for 4 nights and it only got worse, with the final two nights, sleeping only 4 hours and then only 2 hours last night. It’s off the bed, back in the box and far away from the bedroom, and AirMiles is arranging a shipping label to go back to them for full credit of my AirMiles. That thing must be full of some type of chemical treatment on the fabric. I used to get reactions but haven’t had anything much in about 25 years and this is severe and even my husband got the same reaction. Now my old and trusted organic cotton covered duvet, filled with organic silk, is back on the bed, along with my organic cotton duvet cover, and I’m already 50% better than I was this morning. It is insane all the toxic crap applied to fabric these days.
Same experience ! I have waited weeks and sent a request as to how much longer and no answer ! So disappointed since I paid for express delivery as well ! Would like to cancel and will spread the word but can’t get thru to anyone !
I love my Gravid blanket. It kindaaa looks like it’s made from elephant skin, which is appropriate, because it is so heavy, it’s clearly designed for baby elephants – or myself cuz im huge (363lbs) It’s superb, and an absolute pleasure to sleep with (zipper is very durable). Relieved my joint pain. Great review thanks.
Love what you’re doing at Trusted Sleep Reviews, especially the work you did with ‘Gravid vs. Hush (2021): Which Weighted Blanket Should You Buy in Canada’. I’ve owned both blankets and the Gravid by far is superior. -Sid
As a bit of an update to this article and review. As of Nov 1st (or so) the return policy for the Gravid blanket has been reduced to 14 days.
Just as an addition, when you put something in your cart, navigate to look at your cart, at the bottom there are a number of links, top one is “Refund Policy”. I initiated a chat using their chat feature and I was informed that the policy had indeed changed. There is a note at the bottom of the new refund policy and it is “*If you placed your order before March 3rd, 2022, your order is covered by our previous 101 Night Trial.”
I placed an order on 09/30/2023 for 4 items, totaling $510.97 CAD. I’ve waited too long to receive my order, and I no longer want to do business with this company as a result. I’ve sent cancellation requests to Hush, however they have yet to respond. Their return policy states the customer is responsible for return shipping, so I want a refund before the item ships. The SKUs for the items I ordered are as follows: HUSH-INSURANCE HUSH-PILLOW-B HUSH-EYEMASK 90X90-ICED-35
Same here still waiting for a reply form Hush as to when I will get my order.
Feels like I have been scammed into paying for a premium blanket and they aren’t even going to ship it.
They are great at marketing suck you in then NADA. so disappointed if I don’t hear anything soon I will be going to global. There is nowhere to write a review on their website or any means to write a review apart from his page to warn others.
feeling very ripped off and taken advantage of.
Feels like just an online company that can say how good it is but we don’t even know if any customers comments are true.
ABSOLUTELY ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM HUSH
I spent hours chasing down a response from HUSH. They not only ignored my question but disrespected me as a customer by not replying to my email. each email sent to them was acknowledged by their auto reply as being received and they would get back to me in 2-3 days
During the time I did not receive (for 34 days) an answer I was inundated with advertising from them
The inital question was were do I find papers or research substantiating the **Backed by Science** claim. This was needed by my Insurance Company to consider reimbursement.
Eventually I asked for the email address of the CEO with intent of making the CEO aware.
Eventually, after 34 days, I received a very simple answer which would have sufficed at the onset.
Hi XXX,
We are so sorry that you did not receive a response. No sure how it was missed.
Unfortunately, there is no research exists research to submit in attempting to change the status quo.
If you have any other questions, please let me know!
Stay safe and Better sleeps ahead!
Best,
Kara from Hush.
