Doze Mattress Topper Review: Our Conclusion

The Doze AirGel™ Mattress Topper is one-of-kind. A refreshing option vs. traditional pillow-top and memory foam mattress toppers that we’re all used to.

I love how pressure-relieving this topper is. If you suffer from pain concerns, Doze is an excellent option, as it provides a unique floating feeling that alleviates pain as soon as you lay down.

I also love how responsive it is. If you’re worried about feeling “stuck” in your mattress, you’ll be happy on this buoyant bed.

It’s a cooling mattress topper as well; Doze’s grid is aerated, allowing for continual airflow, promoting breathability. Finally, this mattress topper comes in at a reasonable price and ships free across Canada. It’s the most innovative mattress topper our testers have slept on, hands down. Comfortable and supportive. Sleeps cooler than the competition. A strong buy recommendation!

Most Supportive Mattress Topper for Heavier Body Weights

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt - $507.05

Rating:
4.5/5

Laying on the Tempur-Pedic’s TEMPUR-Adapt topper, I could tell the foam felt thick and dense. This is fairly typical for TEMPUR Material foam, based on my experience testing other Tempur-Pedic products. The dense foam is supportive and takes awhile to sink into. It is exceptionally dense when you first lay on it, allowing you to blissfully fall asleep. Heavier set individuals will immediately appreciate the slow contouring of the foam over the course of the night.

Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt Mattress Topper Review: Our Conclusion

Personally, I am a big fan of the proprietary TEMPUR Material foam, which has a thick, dense feel that allows for serious conforming and body contouring. I think both back and side sleepers will find this topper comfortable, particularly as it provides relief on pressure points. This topper should be a good pick for those with back, hip, or shoulder pain.

All in all, I really liked the TEMPUR-Adapt mattress topper. I’d say it’s one of the best memory foam mattress toppers I’ve tested, in terms of a truly comfortable feel. You sink into this topper just right to feel super cozy. I also like that this topper has a removable cover you can wash in the washing machine. Foam is spot-clean only, so having that cover helps to keep your topper fresh and clean. That’s also a big plus to folks with allergies, in addition to the fact that this cover is allergen-resistant.

However, this isn’t a good choice for stomach sleepers, as it is too soft to maintain their spinal alignment properly. It also might not be a good choice for hot sleepers, as memory foam naturally traps heat quite easily and this topper doesn’t incorporate any cooling properties, such as gel memory foam or a breathable cover.

Additionally, I wish this topper had straps, a skirt, or another way of securing to your mattress, so you wouldn’t have to worry about it shifting.

Best Mattress Topper for Intimate Couples

Leesa Mattress Topper w/Washable Cover - $649.99

Rating:
4/5

Sleep is fundamental, but it’s not the only activity that takes place in the bedroom.

For people with an active sex life, using their mattress is about more than just getting their nightly rest. However, when it comes to enabling intimacy, not all mattresses toppers are created equal.

While no one would suggest neglecting the importance of sleep when selecting a new mattress, sex shouldn’t be overlooked either. Most people need a bed that is great for both, and in reality, the best mattress topper for sex is also a great mattress topper for sleep.

Leesa Mattress Topper w/Washable Cover Review: Our Conclusion

The Leesa Mattress Topper offers proof that a mattress topper can utilize memory foam and still be a top choice for sex. With a straightforward, layered foam design, this topper is highly comfortable with a broad appeal that is enhanced by its customer-friendly sleep trial.

Multiple foams are blended together in the design of the Leesa Mattress Topper. The topper starts with a plush polyfoam substrate for pressure relief and softness. Next, Leesa’s blends in a gel-infused memory foam that creates a solid degree of motion isolation and cushioning for the body’s sharpest pressure points. The last ingredient is denser polyfoam with comparatively less contouring and more bounce. Combined, these layers keeps the sink of the Leesa Mattress Topper from being excessive and facilitates movement on the bed, including for sexual activity.

The triple blended foam design accommodates an individual’s weight distribution. The Leesa Mattress Topper has a crowd-pleasing firmness level of medium firm that can work for people in any sleeping position. It has enough softness to lighten impact on the body during sex and enough responsiveness for high-energy sexual activity.

A big selling point for the Leesa Mattress Topper is its customer-friendly 30 day sleep trial. On top of that, Leesa provides a 5 year warranty covering defects in materials or workmanship.

Pure Green 100% Natural Latex - $471.62

The latex foam is sourced from natural latex harvested from organically grown rubber trees in Sri Lanka. The topper is certified organic through GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard). No synthetic latex materials, fire retardants, or fillers are used in this topper whatsoever. This design was implemented in order to create a softer, cooler, and more responsive feel.

Pure Green 100% Natural Latex Mattress Topper Review: Our Conclusion

The Pure Green natural latex topper adds quite the notable level of softness to virtually any mattress. Atypical to the more traditional memory foam toppers, the Pure Green steers away from the pronounced contour and hug and leans more towards a deep level of sinkage with less of an enveloped feel and quicker response times.

As I first lied down on the topper, I sank almost entirely through the 2″ of material. Keep in mind, I only weigh about 140 pounds. Even though I was close to sinking through the topper, I did not feel as if I was being trapped by the latex foam whatsoever. Instead, the mattress topper was able to sink with me and respond immediately as I rolled over or changed positions entirely. By having such a fast response time the Pure Green Latex topper was able to add that nice degree of softness and avoid any sort of stuck feeling.

Best Traditional Foam (not memory foam) Mattress Topper

Tuft & Needle Mattress Topper - $406.76

Rating:
3/5

I tested the Tuft & Needle mattress topper by laying on it in different sleeping positions and trying it with different mattresses to get a sense of the feel.

I thought the topper felt super soft — both in the sense that the cover’s fabric was quite soft and that the foam was very squishy. I did like how having the cover on the topper reduced some of the “foamy” feeling that you might get from lying right on the foam core. However, I did note that this topper is fairly thin, so I didn’t get quite as much pressure relief from it as a thicker topper might have offered.

Tuft & Needle Mattress Topper Review: Our Conclusion

Overall, the Tuft & Needle mattress topper is a great option for anyone who needs an extra touch of softness on their bed. I think it’s a great pick for back sleepers, as it won’t make their beds too soft but can offer some relief for shoulder and lower back pain with its adaptive foam.

Some side sleepers could also find the Tuft & Needle mattress topper helpful in providing pressure relief, but I would caution side sleepers if they are either 1) heavy sleepers who weigh 250 pounds or more or 2) currently sleeping on a firm mattress, to go for a thicker topper that will offer more room to sink in for pressure relief.

Best Budget Memory Foam Topper on Amazon

Linenspa Mattress Topper - $128.99

Rating:
3.6/5

Linenspa’s 3 Inch Gel Infused Memory Foam Mattress Topper adds a comfortably thick layer of cushion to your bed. The memory foam molds to your body shape for optimal spinal alignment and enhances motion isolation, which is great for couples. Whereas some memory foam mattress toppers can trap heat, the cooling gel beads in this model help fight against excessive heat retention.

Linenspa Gel 3 Inch Infused Memory Foam Mattress Topper Review: Our Conclusion

The Linenspa 3 Inch Gel Infused Memory Foam Mattress Topper makes your existing mattress instantly comfortable! The heat regulating gel beads are a welcome innovation to traditional, heat trapping memory foam. It sleeps relatively cool and relieves pressure on the shoulders, hips and knees. However, the memory foam is slow to rebound back to its regular shape, leaving some noticeable lumpiness in the topper when you wake up in the morning. Great value for the money!

Best Budget Pillow Top Mattress Topper on Amazon

Sleep Mantra Mattress Topper - $119.99

Rating:
3.8/5

The Sleep Mantra Mattress Topper uses a down alternative, which is a stuffing material used in place of bird feathers to fill pillows and other bedding. This mattress topper features a microfiber shell with a synthetic polyfill stuffing inside. This gives it a very soft plushy feeling on the surface, making your mattress more comfortable when lying down. Our testers gave this mattress pad 3.8 out of 5 stars for support. If you should spill something, this topper is technically machine washable, but given its size, it may not fit in all washers and dryers.

Sleep Mantra Mattress Topper: Our Conclusion

The fill supposedly doesn’t shift, but we learned through testing that the entire mattress topper does. Unlike a mattress pad, a topper just sits on top of the mattress for extra padding but isn’t fitted with elastic or anything to keep it from moving. While the fill acts as a nice cushion, it’s also perhaps a bit overstuffed. It was hard to pull a fitted sheet over the top of it because the stuffing layer is thick—although it seems to flatten over time, so that might not be a permanent issue.

Overall, this mattress topper is soft, comfortable, and can act as a layer to cushion firmer mattresses. So if you purchase it with that in mind, it will serve your needs effectively, and that’s why we gave it 3.8 out of 5 stars for effectiveness because it delivers what it promises.

Polysleep Mattress Topper Review: Our Conclusion

The Polysleep mattress topper is medium soft. I felt this softness on first contact, with my body sinking into the mattress a bit as soon as I laid down on my back. However, the support of the lower layers kicked in quickly, and I never felt stuck in the mattress at any time. Strict side sleepers should do well with the Polysleep because of the pressure relief in the shoulders and hips in the side position. I felt good spinal alignment when I tested my side.

On my stomach, the Polysleep’s softer nature worked against it slightly. My hips sank into the bed when rolling onto my stomach, a position that can cause uncomfortable spinal misalignment over the course of a night. This is especially important to consider if you are 250 lbs or above. The Polysleep may not provide enough support for you in any sleeping position.

The 2″ ventilated antimicrobial Topper precisely conforms to your body, ensuring proper spine alignment while you sleep. The foam is highly breathable, allowing hot air to escape to offer a deep, comfortable sleep. This topper also works as a protective layer, extending the lifespan of your mattress & reducing the build-up of bacteria.

Best Hybrid Mattress Topper

Lucid Down Alternative & Gel Memory Foam - $288.83

Rating:
3.5/5

Versatility reigns supreme with the Lucid Down Alternative and Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper. The 2-in-1, dual comfort layers beneath a pure cotton cover give you flexibility to sleep on soft down alternative fill or pressure-relieving memory foam. Adjust your comfort by turning the topper over, or by turning the gel-infused memory foam insert from its smooth side to the articulated side. The down alternative side is box stitched to keep hypoallergenic fill from shifting. The addition of cooling gel material to the memory foam improves sleep temperature, while the convoluted design improves airflow.

Lucid Down Alternative & Gel Memory Foam Review: Our Conclusion

The Lucid 2-in-1 Down Alternative & Gell Memory Foam is a hybrid mattress topper that combines foam and fiberfill for support and pillow-top comfort. The bottom layer is memory foam infused with gel, while the top layer includes pockets of down alternative for plush padding. It goes onto your bed like a fitted sheet to help everything stay in place, though it doesn’t have the strap to keep the two layers extra secure together.

It’s supposed to be a luxurious four inches high with equal parts foam and pillow top, but it measured significantly shorter than advertised – the pillow top was just over 1″ and the memory foam was 1.75″. What’s neat is that it’s actually two separate pieces that you can layer together or use separately. The down alternative top layer that holds everything together is machine washable and dryer safe.

I had really high expectations for this mattress topper as it was the best of both worlds combined – and I think this is what Lucid’s team is banking on. However, in practice, it seems like two lower quality components that have been sandwiched together. It’s uneven, and provides lack-luster spinal support, regardless of what side you sleep on. If you use the pillow top side, it also noticeably lumpy. This is a perfect instance of ‘you get what you pay for’.

Best Medium-Firm Mattress Topper for Back Pain

Perlecare Memory Foam Mattress Topper - $336.37

Every person with back pain has different needs from their sleep surface based on factors like body type and preferred sleep position. The Perlecare Memory Foam Mattress Topper is a midrange option that caters well to sleepers trying to resolve chronic back pain.

The Perlecare topper consists of a single layer of high-density polyfoam measuring 3 inches thick. The foam contours evenly to promote even alignment and reduce pressure points for side and back sleepers – especially those who weigh up to 250 pounds.

Perlecare Memory Foam Mattress Topper Review: Our Conclusion

Perlecare uses premium materials in its mattress topper. Overall, this mattress topper scored solid marks across each of our rating categories.

However, there are some potential drawbacks. Though the organic cotton cover helps control temperatures by wicking away moisture and permitting air circulation, some sleepers may find that the Perlecare may still trap more heat than they’d like. Additionally, due to the plushness of the 3″ foam, some couples may find that the surface is not as responsive as would be ideal for intimacy. However, to relieve back pain, the 3″ foam layer is heaven-sent. It allows your body to spread the weight evenly, relieving any muscle contortions or pinched nerves in your back.
